Silliness

I've been thinking alot about a mad new project... its a big job, but I think its a really cool idea... and it could be useful to all sorts of people... and yes, I'm being evasive about what it is... I don't get precious about things that often, but this is something I wanna keep to myself until I (a) think it through a lot more (b) have some kind of prototype that I can do the whole "postal proof of invention" thing with... hell, I'm even thinking about possibly patenting this... and if I'm gonna invest that kind of money, you know I'm rather fond of it.... I don't want someone to steal my baby!

Anyway, I've been doing some research in all sorts of random fields, and fell across some silly factoids about where I live, so I thought I'd share them ;-)
  • The natural philosopher Robert Boyle lived in Stalbridge, the town my address falls under

  • So did, atleast for a while, Douglas Adams, author of, amongst lots of other stuff, the Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy trilogy of five books

  • Wincanton (about 9 miles from Stalbridge) is supposedly the only place to be twinned with a town that doesn't exist... As well as being twinned with Gennes/Les Rosiers in France and Lahnau in Germany, Wincanton is twinned with Ankh-Morpork, a city state near the Circle Sea on Terry Pratchett's Discworld

  • Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the Web lived in Wimborne, which is about 30 miles away. (Yes its not really local, but its still kinda cool

  • Thomas Hardy is also apparently a former resident of Wimborne... Stalbridge Park features in his Wessex novels as "Stapleford Park"
