***pissed***

I am *seriously* pissed off... apparently someone has been searching for me online with the sole purpose of moaning to Anne about me... something about me having <evil overtones>"fetishes"... -shock-horror!- Apparently this has come from my LJ somewhere...

Now obviously I'm guessing about what whoever it is actually saw, but the only bit of my LJ on which I can think of fetishes being mentioned is by user info page in that silly poem... which is just that, a silly poem... but step into the realms of perception and I can see that it could be taken the other way... it's *supposed* to basically say "I'm not straight-forward, and my reactions may be a little extreme... but not always in the way you might guess..."

But I mean, WT*F* does it matter what I get up to in my private life, or what I say on line (including in this journal), unless it is a less-than-trivial task to link the charity to what I've said... and even then, unless I'm going around saying I'm raping, pillaging and murdering (or any combination thereof), I still can't say I see a problem...

Anyway, it is less than trivial... granted its also not hugely difficult, googling for

jo anneharris

will bring up my Chiark homepage, and both my LJ and the Charity site are linked from there... oh, and it comes up higher in Google's listing than anything from the Charity website....

Thats my guess as to how these comments originated...but that's not the point.

I mean, *really*, what *IS* the problem...? So long as I am professional and presentable and am not rude to Publics and (and anyone who's reading this who knows me IRL knows this one isn't gonna happen (or I *HOPE* they do.... eek!)) don't do anything nasty to any of the kids...

And lets face it, with all the *wonderful* people who've been put in positions of trust with children (just remember the Soham murders and you'll know what I mean...), the vetting processes are (atleast historically) pretty CRAP... I'm making *DAMN* sure that nobody working under the auspicies of the Charity are going to be left in a position of responsibility over any children, as I don't have current Criminal Record Bureau vetting for working with children or anyone else who's at-risk... I don't even think all the Trustees do. If we're going into a school, it is one of the Terms Of Hire that the school is responsible for providing adequate supervision at all times...

The fact also stands that I *have* worked in a school and was there for 3 years (part time for 2 of those, but still) and I had to have Police Vetting to get the position in the first place.

And the second fact remains that I have no ""live" criminal record... and even the spent convictions are motoring offences.

And a third thing; why was someone even looking??? I mean, if you visit a website, do you start trying to dig up dirt about the web-bod who maintains that site??? I don't *think* many (ANY?) people do that, now, do they?

So anyway, I'm considering changing my user info page... Afterall, I *think* that that's what is most likely to have generated the comments... I don't actually really *want* to change it; it feels *wrong* to me to let something like this affect my presence online, but I'm trying to be sensible and think about potential impact on the charity...

I'm also gonna try to remember to be a little more discerning about what gets posted public and what gets friend-only.... up until now, its been pretty much public all the way... I think that may have to change...

So I'm kind of stuck in not-knowing-land... any helpful comments would be appreciated...
